Whitburn Golf Club is a delightfully challenging 18 hole Parkland Par 70 (5899 Yards) course and is located in Lizard Lane, South Shields, Tyne and Wear, NE34 7AF only 20 minutes away from the centre of Newcastle and just off the A183 

The course has magnificent panoramic views of the North East coastline and the mouth of the river Tyne. As the course is developed over limestone the golfer benefits from all year round golf as it has excellent course drainage and magnificent green making this course a popular destination within the area. 

The course was originally laid out in 1934 by John Morrison, who was responsible for the re-development of both Wentworth and the Princes course at Sandwich. Although the course is officially described as parkland, the final five holes run along the coastline and are, to all but the true purist, links holes. The course also has five par 3's, all of which are generally played with a cross wind and are trickier than they at first appear and the greens on most holes are extremely well protected by a wealth of strategically placed bunkers, ready to snare any stray shot.  

The fairways are gently undulating so good work from the tee is absolutely essential if a good score is to be achieved. Accurate shooting and a good knowledge of your clubs will stand you in good stead to score well. A fine and enjoyable course which will appeal to experienced golfers without intimidating beginners.
